Paralympic skiing legend Michael Milton has taken another step toward competing at the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Paralympic Games, receiving formal nomination for selection to the Australian Paralympic Winter Team.
In a letter from Snow Australia, Michael was advised that, following assessment by the Snow Australia Nomination Panel and application of the official nomination criteria, he will be nominated to Paralympics Australia for selection in Para Alpine skiing.
Michael has been nominated across all five alpine events — Downhill, Super-G, Alpine Combined, Giant Slalom and Slalom — subject to medical clearance.
The nomination reflects his performances throughout the Paralympic Qualification Period and the Panel’s assessment that he is well placed to deliver a strong competitive performance at the Games.
Snow Australia will formally submit its nominations to Paralympics Australia today (17 February), with final team selection to follow.
The nomination marks another milestone in Michael’s remarkable comeback campaign. After returning to elite competition in pursuit of a place at Milano Cortina, he has raced across multiple continents to regain eligibility in all five Para alpine disciplines.
He said the nomination was both humbling and motivating.
“Especially this week, after a crash and then surgery on Friday, it’s great to get some good news, to still be moving through the process.”
It’s one more step toward achieving my goal to race at the Paralympic Games.
With final selection pending and medical clearance still required, Michael remains focused on recovering from surgery as the countdown to Italy continues.
The Australian Paralympic Winter Team is expected to be officially announced later this month, with the Games set to begin on 6 March 2026.
